Siamak Khayyati

I am an assistant professor of business analytics at HEC Liege, the management School of the University of Liege. My main area of research is the application of machine learning to different problems in operations research and supply chain management, especially production control, queueing systems, and the newsvendor problem. Also, lately, I have been working on energy efficiency with the broader goal of sustainability by production mode control as a part of the TUBiTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) project on “Design and Implementation of Data-Driven Production, Material Flow, and Energy Mode Control Systems with Energy and Cost Efficiency Considerations in Production Systems”.

I received my Ph.D. from Koc University on the subject of data-driven control of production/inventory systems under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Baris Tan. My Ph.D. studies exposed me to many interesting subjects in operations management, some of which I had the chance to explore more in my research e.g., stochastic processes and queueing models and some I aim to work on in the future e.g., the application of machine learning to healthcare. Another valuable experience I had during this time was learning to work with high-performance clusters for generating, maintaining, and analyzing very large datasets.

During my graduate studies, postdoctoral research and my time as an assistant professor in Iran, Turkey, Germany, and Belgium I have been involved with many teaching-related activities to a diverse groups of students, from holding exercise classes to giving lectures and preparing syllabi and examination material.
